LUANDA, Angola - On the sidelines of the Africa Day celebrations, a webinar was held on 23 May 2024. The theme of the event was ‘Angolan Youth Participation and the Implementation of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda’, and the UNFPA Youth, Gender and Humanitarian Programme Officer, Dr Luís Samacumbi, gave the welcome remarks on behalf of the UNFPA Angola Representative, Dr Mady Biaye.
The Secretary of State for Youth, Francisco Boaventura Canjongo Chitapa, opened the debates, while the National Director of Youth, Kikas Manuel Machado, closed the webinar.
One of the main aims of the webinar was to strengthen the public debate on youth engagement in the decision-making processes for building peace and security in Angola, and it was attended by leaders of youth and student associations, students, specialists in youth issues and the general public.
This initiative follows Angola's participation in a youth peace and security training event held in November 2023 in the United Republic of Tanzania. At this event, it was established that the Member States of the region need to implement the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda in their respective countries, drawing up a plan with concrete actions to promote an increasingly better environment for society.
One of UNFPA Angola's strategic areas is to help increase youth participation and leadership, as well as partnerships with youth-led organisations, with a view to achieving their full potential.
